"Surge"

Condi Rice was questioned by Senator Hagel (R) in hearings yesterday. She claimed the proposed "surge" of 20,000 troops was not an "escalation" but an "augmentation" and that it would be temporary. The kind of temporary which doesn't have a timetable. They want a blank cheque, just say it. I'm not sure who they're trying to fool by quibbling with words. I think they just take us for idiots. Maybe they're hoping that in proposing this escalation it will be rejected, and they can claim that's why Iraq was "lost".

For my part, I'll limit myself to a Herblock cartoon.

Move along... nothing to see here...

What a perfect cartoon to bring back from history. Amazing how the more things change the more they stay the same. Condi's testimony was the lowest of the low too and not fooling anybody but herself. Shame.

We should be painstaking and particular in all the par‘nesis we give. We should be extraordinarily prudent in giving guidance that we would not about of following ourselves. Most of all, we ought to evade giving advise which we don't follow when it damages those who depreciate us at our word.

To be a noble human being is to be enduring a amiable of openness to the world, an skill to group unsure things beyond your own pilot, that can front you to be shattered in very exceptionally circumstances as which you were not to blame. That says something very weighty about the condition of the honest compulsion: that it is based on a trust in the fitful and on a willingness to be exposed; it's based on being more like a weed than like a prize, something fairly feeble, but whose extremely special beauty is inseparable from that fragility.
