"Realist" Scholar's case against the Afghan War

An argument one doesn't hear often.

Good point. That said I'd be curious about the effect a Taliban-run Afghanistan would have on Pakistan (the good old domino effect). Although this time around it may be more valid: Pakistan is unstable enough as it is, and the two talibans are fairly closely linked.

I'm not sure a Taliban-run Pakistan (with nukes?) would be as harmless as an Afghan 'safe haven'

We would certainly not want any religious crazies running Afghanistan.

I'm not all that well-informed on the subject, but while I think plenty of things could happen to Pakistan, I'm not sure a Taliban takeover is one of them. The two main ethnic groups of Pakistan are Punjabis and Pashtuns, among neither of which is the Taliban popular (the Taliban are fighting that same ethnicity in Afghanistan, on whom the Karzai government's support largely relies).

Correction: I got this totally off. Pashtuns are the Taliban's base. Punjabs aren't though.
